RCL Korea Successfully Hosts the 2024 WCO RCL Professionals Programme
The 2024 World Customs Organization (WCO) RCL Professionals Programme was successfully held from October 21 to November 28, 2024, at the Korea Customs Laboratory (KCCL). The programme was attended by four participants from Nepal, Mongolia, Uganda, and Tunisia. During the programme, participants had the opportunity to learn about and exchange knowledge on state-of-the-art customs analysis methods and the operation of advanced analytical instruments. The KCCL remains committed to expanding its efforts to support WCO member countries and help broaden their perspectives in the field of customs analysis.202412.11

Newly Appointed Director General of the Korea Central Customs Laboratory Assumes Office
Mr. Park Jae-sun was inaugurated as the 28th Director General of the Korea Central Customs Laboratory (KCCL) on July 3, 2024. During the inauguration ceremony, Director General Park emphasized the imperative to prevent the importation of drugs and illegal or harmful foods that pose a threat to social safety and public health. This mandate is grounded in the advanced customs analysis technology that the laboratory has developed over the years. Furthermore, he underscored the KCCL's pivotal role in global customs analysis standardization, including its contributions as the World Customs Organization (WCO) Asia-Pacific Regional Customs Laboratory. This involves providing consulting services for the establishment of laboratories in developing countries and operating capacity-building training programs for WCO member countries.202408.19

KCCL successfully hosted the 3rd RCL Heads Meeting on 23-25 April 2024 in Jinju
Korea Central Customs Laboratory hosted the 3rd Meeting of Heads of WCO Asia/Pacific Regional Customs Laboratories (RCLs), on 23-25 April 2024 in Jinju, the Republic of Korea. The delegates from RCLs, RILO and ROCB in AP, and the WCO had the opportunity to attend the proceedings of the meeting and engage in rich exchanges with representatives of RCLs from China, India, Indonesia, Japan and the Republic of Korea with the delegates from Algeria, Ghana, Kenya and Uganda, having the opportunity to attend the proceedings of the meeting as observers. As part of the programme, KCCL organized tours to RCL in Korea and to Busan Customs Laboratory. Participants explored the premises of the laboratories and were introduced to the methods and equipment used to analyze various categories of merchandise, along with the sampling techniques, safety requirements, analysis purposes, laboratory standards, and procedural aspects of laboratory work. The Meeting concluded successfully and the RCLs agreed to continue to exchange information and work together to strengthen the functioning of customs laboratories within the region and other regions.202405.10
