Customs Procedures and Declarable Goods for Departure

I want to know about the customs procedures for departure. What articles must be declared?

  • Luxury watches, cameras, precious metals, jewelry, furs, A-class golf clubs, etc.
  • Means of payment such as any foreign currency or the Korean won exceeding the value of US$10,000
  • Goods on which import declaration has been accepted

Carrying articles specified by other laws and regulations, such as cultural assets, is restricted.

  • High-priced articles which are to be carried back into Korea at the time of arrival back must be declared to a customs office at the time of departure from Korea. However, the articles which are to be carried in and out on several occasions just need to be declared once only at the time of the first departure.

High-priced articles which were not declared at the time of departure may be subject to the imposition of duties upon arrival.

  • A formal export declaration must be filed on precious metals (such as gold bars, etc.) which are not personal belongings.
Let's not buy or give fake products as presents!
Carrying in any counterfeit product may result in punishment under the Trademark Act by :
  • Confiscation of the counterfeit product
  • Imprisonment for not more than seven years or a fine not exceeding 100 million won
