Goods That Must Be Declared to the Customs upon Arrival

What kinds of goods must be declared to the Customs upon arrival?

  • Weaponry such as guns (including simulated ones), swords, crossbows, etc.; bullets and chemicals; and poisonous or radioactive materials
  • Narcotic drugs such as opium, heroin, cocaine, MDMA, hemp and Philopon; Viagra; Cialis; and diet pills
  • Agricultural, forest, livestock and fishery products such as animals (including meat, leather), plants, fruits, vegetables and live aquatic products as well as other foods
  • Animal and plant species and their derivative products as outined by the the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), such as ivories, sea bear penises, bear gallbladders, etc.
  • Items which infringe upon any intellectual property rights, such as goods carrying a forged trademark
  • Counterfeit money, forged or altered marketable securities
  • Books, pictures, movies, music records or video works which may cause harm to the national constitution, public peace and social customs
  • Means of payment, such as any foreign currency or Korean won (KRW), whose value exceeds US$10,000
  • Goods which are shipped or carried in for the purpose of being sold or used by companies
  • Goods which exceed the duty-free allowance (not more than US$600, 1 bottle of liquor, 1 carton of cigarettes, perfume of 60㎖)
